The Detroit Pistons have reportedly settled on their next front-office leader.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, New Orleans Pelicans’ Trajan Langdon will take over as the organization’s new president of basketball operations. The decision comes after a seemingly extensive search, which began after the Pistons finished dead last in the NBA standings with a 14-68 record.
After helping build the Pelicans’ roster into a stable playoff contender, Langdon has become one of the more well-respected executives. He served in the Brooklyn Nets’ front office before joining David Griffin in New Orleans.
Langdon will now take the top spot in Detroit from former front office leader Troy Weaver. The Pistons previously announced that Weaver would remain in his position of General Manager for the time being, but their new hire will run the show.
Marc Eversley Misses Out
Marc Eversley was among the candidates for the Pistons’ new position. The current Chicago Bulls GM found himself on a short-list of choices, per The Athletic.
This marked the second search in which Eversley was a part of this offseason, with the first being the GM search in Charlotte. The Hornets ultimately landed on Nets executive Jeff Peterson. Eversley’s position in both races speaks volumes about where he stands in the eyes of administrators across the league. The former Nike executive turned front office face is very clearly a well-respected figure, which means this may not be the last opportunity that lands on his desk.
On the one hand, I guess this could be considered good news for the Chicago Bulls. Eversley being desirable obviously means that he has something valuable to offer. On the other hand, it does kind of sting to know the Bulls will not get a new voice in the room.
We all know this organization is stuck in the mud, and an Eversley departure could have at least forced Arturas Karnisovas to make some drastic changes. Instead, we’ll just have to continue crossing our fingers that this front-office duo can figure things out.
