Super Bowl Records: Teams with the Most Wins

The NFL has had some storied franchises. A few have been able to win multiple Super Bowl championships over the years. The Patriots, Steelers, 49ers, Cowboys, and more have deep Super Bowl histories to look through. But which team has won the most?

Patriots and Steelers – 6 Wins

Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and the New England Patriots have seen the most success in recent years. They have won 6 Super Bowls.

Their most recent came in Super Bowl LII vs the Los Angeles Rams back in 2019. Their first was also against the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI back in 2002. The Rams were based in St. Louis back then.

The Steelers won 4 Super Bowls in 6 years back in the 70s and 80s. Terry Bradshaw was at the helm playing quarterback during that run. Then with Ben Roethlisberger, they won two in four years from the 2005-08 seasons.

49ers and Cowboys – 5 Wins

The 80s and 90s were dominated by the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. The 49ers won their first title in 1982 and ended up capturing their 5th in 1995.

The Cowboys won 3 in 4 years in the early 90s. They defeated the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVII and XXVIII. The other two championships for the Cowboys were in Super Bowl VI and XII.

Giants and Packers – 4 Wins

The Packers were the winners of the first two Super Bowls in the history of the NFL. These wins came under legendary coach Vince Lombardi. They then won a title with MVP quarterback Brett Favre in 1997 and with Aaron Rodgers in 2011.

The Giants are known for two massive wins over Tom Brady and the Patriots. The first during the 2007 season ended the Patriots’ chance for a perfect 19-0 season. The second was in 2012. The Giants also won in 1987 and 1991.

Broncos, Commanders, Raiders – 3 Wins

The Broncos won back-to-back in 1998-99. John Elway was the quarterback for each title. They then captured their third in 2016 with Peyton Manning.

Washington won three Super Bowls from 1983-92. The Raiders won two in Oakland in 1977 and 1981. They then were able to win a championship in Los Angeles in 1984.

Teams who have never won a Super Bowl

There are 12 teams that have never won a Super Bowl in NFL history. A few of those franchises have never even made an appearance in the big game.

The Philadelphia Eagles were the most recent team in the NFL to get their first Lombardi Trophy. This came after winning Super Bowl LII vs the Patriots. Here are the teams who are yet to win the Super Bowl.

Bills and Vikings – 4 appearances

The Bills reached 4-straight Super Bowls to start the 90s with their high-octane offense. They lost Super Bowls 25, 26, 27, and 28. Two of the losses were at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys.

The Vikings reached Super Bowls 4, 8, 9, and 11 but failed to pick up a single victory. They lost to four different opponents over that span: The Chiefs, Dolphins, Steelers, and Raiders.

Bengals – 3 appearances

The Bengals fell 23-20 to the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl 56 at Sofi Stadium. Before that, they had reached the big game to lose in Super Bowl 16 and Super Bowl 23. Both of those losses came at the hands of quarterback Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers.

Falcons and Panthers – 2 appearances

The Falcons will always be remembered for blowing a huge 28-3 lead vs the Patriots in Super Bowl 51. They also lost to John Elway and the Denver Broncos back in Super Bowl 33.

The Panthers lost to the Broncos in Super Bowl 50. The Broncos received a dominant performance from Von Miller in the victory. Tom Brady and the Patriots beat Carolina in Super Bowl 38.

Chargers, Cardinals, Titans – 1 appearance

These teams reached the NFL’s biggest game just once in franchise history. The Chargers got beaten badly in Super Bowl 29 by the 49ers. The Cardinals lost due to a late incredible TD pass vs the Steelers in Super Bowl 43 while the Titans were a yard short vs the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl 34.

Browns, Jaguars, Lions, Texans – 0 appearances

For these NFL franchises, there hasn’t even been the chance to win it all and hoist the trophy. The Jaguars and Browns have reached the AFC Championship game multiple times but fell short in each game.

The Lions have not been able to win a playoff game since January 5, 1992. The Texans have never made it past the Divisional Round.
