LSU (-10) vs Wisconsin
LSU is looking to get to 10 wins on the year as it takes on Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl. Wisconsin finished 7-5 due to losses to Ohio State, Indiana, and Northwestern in the middle of the year. These losses kept them out of the Big Ten title game and they will have their hands full with LSU.
Tanner Mordecai had 6 touchdown passes in 9 games for Wisconsin while running back Braelon Allen is off to the NFL Draft after running for 984 yards and 12 touchdowns. As he focuses on the draft, the Badgers will take a big hit in the bowl game in their run game.
LSU has the Heisman winner in Jayden Daniels but he is skipping the bowl to focus on the NFL after having 50 total touchdowns this season (40 passing). He ran for over 1,000 yards in a spectacular season. Top targets at WR include Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas. Nabers had over 1,500 yards with 14 TDs while Thomas went for over 1,000 yards and 15 TDs.
Tennessee (-6) vs Iowa
Tennesse is favored as it meets Iowa in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. The Volunteers were 5-1 before hitting the rough part of their schedule. Losses to Alabama, Missouri, and Georgia pushed Tennessee out of contention to play in the SEC Championship game.
Joe Milton threw for 20 touchdowns and ran for 7 more. He is entering the NFL Draft and will skip the bowl game. Running back Jaylen Wright is following his lead and going to the NFL as well after 1,013 yards with 4 touchdowns.
For Iowa, the question all season has been can they score? The defense has been strong but the offense has struggled and scored 20+ points in only 6 games this year. The Hawkeyes found a way to win games and ended up 10-2 heading into the Big Ten Championship game. Iowa fell to Michigan 26-0 and finished 10-3.
Oregon (-16.5) vs Liberty
The Fiesta Bowl features a 13-0 Liberty vs an Oregon team that just fell short of a PAC-12 title. Liberty won the Conference USA Championship while Oregon would have been in the College Football Playoff if it had beaten Washington.
Liberty has talent on offense including quarterback Kaidon Salter who threw 31 touchdown passes and added 5 more on the ground. On top of that, he ran for over 1,000 yards with 12 touchdowns. Running back Quinton Cooley ran for 1,322 yards with 16 touchdowns. WR CJ Daniels caught 10 TDs.
For Oregon, Bo Nix threw 40 touchdown passes and he was a Heisman finalist. The Ducks were great on offense but slipped up twice to Washington to find themselves on the outside of the College Football Playoff. Running back Bucky Irving had over 1,009 yards on the year with 10 touchdowns.
Nix loved throwing to Tez Johnson and Jordan James as they combined for over 1,700 yards with 20 touchdowns.
Michigan (-1.5) vs Alabama
The Rose Bowl is a battle between Michigan and Alabama in the first College Football Playoff Semifinal. The winner gets a shot at a national title on January 8.
Michigan has had a controversial season with head coach Jim Harbaugh being suspended twice but the Wolverines found a way to go 13-0 with wins over Penn State, Ohio State, and Iowa along the way. JJ McCarthy threw 19 touchdown passes while Blake Corum was a scoring machine with 24 rushing touchdowns.
Alabama lost in week 2 to Texas before ripping off 10 wins in a row. They capped off their regular season with a dramatic 27-24 win over Auburn on a last-second touchdown pass on 4th and goal from the 31-yard line. The Crimson Tide then snapped Georgia’s 29-game win streak by winning the SEC Championship.
Jalen Milroe had 35 total touchdowns stepping in at quarterback after watching Bryce Young last year head to be the number one overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Texas (-4) vs Washington
The Sugar Bowl is the second College Football Playoff Semifinal as Texas takes on Washington. For Texas, the Longhorns beat Alabama 34-24 on the road in week 2 and only lost once on the season to rival Oklahoma 34-30.
Quinn Ewers had some injuries but is ready for the bowl game. He threw 21 touchdown passes. The team is dealing with some injuries as star running back Jonathon Brooks is out and WR Xavier Worthy is questionable for the bowl game. Worthy had 969 receiving yards this season.
Washington finished the PAC-12 unbeaten with a 13-0 record as conference champs. The Huskies beat Oregon twice, once in the regular season and then in the championship game to get them into the College Football Playoff.
Michael Penix was a Heisman finalist and threw for 33 touchdowns with 13 of those touchdowns going to talented wide receiver Rome Odunze who had 81 receptions for 1,428 yards.
