Allow me to state at the outset that I am a Bruce Miles fan. He is more knowledgeable than most of the Chicago Cubs beat writers and he’s incredible accessible to fans.
But that said, a couple recent publications on the Daily Herald are… strange.
At 3:39 PM on March 31, 2009, this article went up: Daily Herald – True grit: Scrappy Theriot makes the grade.
Aside from the painfully – hopefully purposefully so – cliche use of “grit” and “scrappy,” the article is a useful and interesting examination of how traditional scout-based fans always liked Theriot, and now modern stats-based fans are also warming up to him. Swell.
But then…
At 3:40 PM on March 31, 2009, this article went up: Daily Herald – Baseball analysts change their tune about Theriot.
Which is a useful and interesting… um… examination of how traditional scout-based fans always liked Theriot, and now modern stats-based fans are also warming up to him.
Wha?
I know what you’re thinking, but no, they aren’t the exact same article accidentally published with two different titles. They’re different articles – you know, with like different words and sentences – that just happen to be about the same subject.
The fact that they were published but 1 minute apart indicates to me this is some error on the Herald’s part. But why the two articles? I can understand two drafts of the same article – one earlier, one more recent – but not two completely different articles.
I am not trying to pass this off as scandal; it’s just weird. I’m sure there’s some obvious explanation, and I’m just an idiot for not seeing it. Am I missing something?
