The Chicago Cubs open up a two game series against the Rockies at Wrigley Field today – weather permitting – and they’ll be without two big bats: catcher Geovany Soto and left fielder Milton Bradley.
Soto, who has been out for almost a week now with right shoulder soreness, is getting better but still not quite there.
“He’s ready to go, basically,” Piniella said before Sunday’s series finale in Milwaukee. “We’re not going to use him tonight. Tomorrow, if we need him, we can use him. And by Wednesday he’ll be able to play. So we’ll ride this thing out and go from there. But he’s feeling really, really good and it’s good news for us, obviously.” Hardball.
Soto has battled the shoulder issues for a few years now, so even with additional rest, it’s not likely to be something we can put to bed for good.
Bradley left Sunday’s game with a tender groin – something tells me Bradley will have a lot of tenderness this year – and he’s already been proclaimed out for today’s game.
The Cubs said Bradley had strained his right groin, which he apparently aggravated while taking extra batting practice. Piniella said Bradley would miss Monday’s home opener. His status is day-to-day. Chicago Tribune.
Awesome. I love how the Cubs information machine tries to spin Bradley’s injury back to something out of the ordinary: he strained his groin taking extra batting practice. No worries, fans, it was extra batting practice. No threat of it ever happening again.
