Milton Bradley Punched An Umpire in the Face
Or so MLB would have you believe. Rumors are swirling that Bradley faces a suspension for “bumping” umpire Larry Vanover after his 3-2, bases loaded, totally not a strike, third strike call in Thursday’s loss to the Cardinals.
No word yet, though, on what the punishment will be.
Cubs manager Lou Piniella said the organization has not heard of any disciplinary action against outfielder Milton Bradley after he was ejected following his first Wrigley Field at-bat, a called third strike. He reportedly came into contact with umpire Larry Vanover.
Asked before Friday’s game againast the Cardinals if there were anything he could say to Bradley, Piniella replied:
“I don’t know what I can say. I sent him up there to hit, a 3-and-2 pitch, it didn’t look like a good pitch to me, but the umpires. . .
“You know, I don’t know how to answer your question, I’ll be honest with you. If I don’t know how to answer it, I might as well not.” Hardball.
