Well, the Cubs scored but two runs again tonight, and once again, it was enough to beat the Red Sox.
Edwin Jackson didn’t pitch terribly tonight, but he also demonstrated that focusing on results-only stats cuts both ways: the six innings and one earned run look great, but absent some sparkling defensive plays, it would have been much, much worse. Let it never be said that I’m an Edwin Jackson apologist. I simply don’t think the numbers always tell the whole story (especially the wrong numbers).
The bullpen held the Red Sox down, and the Cubs win another close one in Boston. And they were probably fortunate to do so …
