Arismendy Alcantara was the first of the Chicago Cubs’ top positional prospect promotions this year (COOKIES!), and he greeted fans with an exciting stretch of play that not only flashed his own upside, but the overall upside of what was coming for the Cubs.
And then he kind of fizzled down the stretch. As a young player making his first set of big league adjustments, that wasn’t exactly a surprise or a disappointment, and he also didn’t get a lot of help on the BABIP side of things. But if you drill down into what exactly happened, and ask yourself whether you’re “sold” on Alcantara as a big part of the Cubs in 2015 and beyond, you may see some interesting things.
