I could put together a pretty compelling argument that the only sales pitch Chicago Cubs righty Jake Arrieta need put together is a giant finger pointing to his 2014 season. The guy was simply outstanding, and looks like an emerging ace for the Cubs as they head into what might be a competitive 2015 season. You’d want that guy on your team, right?
Well, Arrieta isn’t quite resting on that as the Cubs look to improve externally for that hoped-for competitive 2015 season. Arrieta is talking to free agents about the Cubs.
Arrieta, who believes the Cubs can contend next year, especially with the right moves this offseason, told Waddle and Silvy on ESPN Radio yesterday: “I have talked to some guys. I know there are quite a few guys that like Chicago and want to give it a look. There’s a lot of interest out there, and it doesn’t surprise me one bit.”
Arrieta added that there are some very good things going on with the Cubs and with Chicago, and he believes players out there know it. I pretty much love the idea of Arrieta out there saying good things about the Cubs to current free agents who might have a question or two.
It doesn’t appear to be up yet, but I imagine the podcast of Arrieta’s appearance will be up on Waddle and Silvy’s page soon enough if you want to check out the whole thing.
