While we wait for actual baseball action tomorrow night – and then lots more after that, right? – there is at least one final highlight from the regular season I wanted to share. It came in the 9th inning of Sunday’s win, and it featured Kris Bryant looking like a dang shortstop making a beautiful leaping throw:
Joe Maddon has said before that Bryant is athletic enough to play shortstop – not that it will happen – and you can see obvious hints of it there in that play. As it was developing, I was thinking to myself, “He’s not gonna do the jump throw thing, is he? Does he really need to? Can he get enough on the thro…”, and then I shut up, because he did that.
Who knows where Bryant’s long-term defensive home will be, and, even in the short-term, it’s an open question where he’ll see most of his time in 2016. The incredible thing about a guy like Bryant is that he has both the athleticism and the humility to play just about anywhere the Cubs need him to play.
