Among the many interesting storylines this Spring and season, my favorite comes from the outfield.
The Cubs brought in two new* players – in Jason Heyward and Dexter Fowler (*maybe not technically new, but it felt new when it happened) – to join Jorge Soler and Kyle Schwarber in what is possibly the most offensively-loaded outfield in baseball.
[adinserter block=”2″]We now know that Dexter Fowler will be the primary center fielder, while Jason Heyward backs him up and plays right, but we’ve mostly heard that from the coaches and men in charge.
Luckily, MLB Network is visiting 30 clubs in 30 days during Spring Training, stopping in and talking to players along the way. For the Cubs, Greg Amsinger is joined by none other than Fowler and Heyward, who discuss the outfield set-up, their favorite spots on the field and more.
Enjoy, and just try not to love these guys:
Now we’ve heard it straight from the horse’s mouth. Fowler will be playing center field, until he needs a break and then “Jason” will cover him, thereafter.
You definitely can get the impression that Heyward would have been perfectly comfortable playing center field had Fowler not returned, but the two figure to be an extraordinarily dynamic outfield team in 2016.
The above video is a quick, lighthearted interview and definitely worth your time.
