Jason Hammel was solid through six scoreless innings, getting into a couple jams, but managing to wriggle his way out. The overall line – outside of the zero in the run column – is not exactly what you’d look for, but sometimes it’s enough.
That’s particularly true when the bullpen is nails, and the defense is very good. So it is with the Cubs this year.
And, yes. The offense.
Even as the Cubs didn’t score a ton early in the game, they worked Reds starter Raisel Iglesias, forcing him out of the game after just five innings, and lodging themselves into the already beat-down Reds bullpen. And that’s when the dam broke …
