If the Cubs can win just one more game tonight, they can make it to 10 in a row.
That doesn’t mean anything, in and of itself, but I just want to see it happen … especially considering whom they’re playing.

Against a righty with VERY pronounced splits (we’ll get more into that later on in the Pre-Gamin’ post) in Carlos Martinez, the Chicago Cubs are starting righty-killer Chris Coghlan in left field for the first time in quite a while. Unfortunately, they won’t be able to sneak their lefty catcher in there too, as David Ross is penciled in to catch Jon Lester.
Sometimes, the timing just isn’t right.
But with Ross and Coghlan in, that means there’s no Javy Baez or Willson Contreras in tonight’s starting lineup. I mean, why even watch? I kid, of course, as both guys have seen a ton of time all over the field lately, and are sure to be back in there over the weekend. I’m a bit bummed to be missing tonight’s game – I have a softball championship game in Lincoln Park! – because it’s sure to be a good one. Let me know how it goes (like I won’t be on my phone in left field).
We’ll have a full Pre-Gamin’ for you closer to game time.
