Chicago Cubs Lineup: Jorge Soler Is In Right Field, Batting Cleanup
Happy Jake Day, fam.
If the 2015 NL Cy Young Award winner, Jake Arrieta, can continue pitching as well as he has been lately, the Cubs will have a shot at reaching 11 straight victories.
Although, they’ll do it with a slightly different look.
Chicago Cubs Lineup vs. St. Louis Cardinals (Adam Wainwright):
- Matt Szczur, CF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Jorge Soler, RF
- Addison Russell, SS
- Willson Contreras, LF
- Miguel Montero, C
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Jake Arrieta, P
Matt Szczur gives Dexter Fowler a day off in center field and atop the Cubs lineup, Jorge Soler steps out to right field and bats cleanup, and Willson Contreras takes over left field while batting sixth. If you’re like me, your first reaction to that lineup was probably something along the lines of, “That’s a pretty fun/exciting outfield.”
But here’s the thing: not one of those players started in the outfield on Opening Day. The Cubs can run out a full line of non-original starters and it still packs a deadly punch in both corners, as well as some upside and great defense in center. That’s pretty unique. And it’s a nice way to rest the regulars after a late game last night.
With Jake Arrieta on the mound, Miguel Montero takes a seat behind the plate.
We’ll have a full Pre-Gamin’: for you closer to game time.
