We’ll get into this more tomorrow, but here’s the pitcher injury recovery data dump for your evening:

Lackey side session went well, should start Sunday. Rondon rehab in Iowa, Saturday and Monday. Strop has a setback with strained right groin

Setback for Strop will push him closer to the full six weeks from original injury before he returns. Hurt his groin working out yesterday.

Strop was ahead of schedule with knee until straining groin Wednesday. No activity for week. Now looking at mid-, late-month return.

The expectation is Pedro Strop will still be pitching out of #Cubs bullpen by late September.

So, that’s a mixed bag, obviously. Good to hear that Rondon progressed to the point where he’s ready to pitch at Iowa as their season winds down. Good to hear that Lackey’s second bullpen of the week went well enough to pencil him in for a return start on Sunday. Having those two back in the fold by the end of the first week of September would be fantastic, as we head down the stretch.
Not so good to hear that Strop had a setback, but it wasn’t related to the knee. I guess that part’s good. He’ll just need to rest up the groin now, and get back to throwing. Good thing he was way ahead of schedule with the knee, and also that he has superhuman healing powers.
It’s unfortunate on Strop, but the Cubs should be able to comfortably clinch the NL Central without him. So, all that matters is that he has a few appearances late in September to gear up for October and show that he’s 100%.
