After a relatively long slump for each, Ben Zobrist and Dexter Fowler went deep in this one, each of which was a very welcomed sight. The Cubs had good at bats all night, in fact, even if it resulted in only four runs.
But, hey, it’s a win for the Cubs over the Cardinals, getting them much closer to clinching the NL Central.

THE BIG STORY, of course, is Kyle Hendricks’ first career no-hitter … which he missed by a single inning. Backed by some excellent defense, Hendricks was incredibly sharp tonight, with typically impeccable command, and excellent movement. He entered the 9th inning having not given up a hit (and just two walks allowed), but an 0-2 changeup that stayed in the heart of the zone got crushed, and that was that. There was some bonus fun thereafter with Joe Maddon getting tossed for trying to delay things long enough for Aroldis Chapman to get warm, which naturally delayed things long enough for Aroldis Chapman to get warm.
