That being the Cubs’ magic number to clinch the NL Central, after today beating the Cardinals and winning this series in St. Louis.
Jon Lester was brilliant, and that includes a couple nice plays in the field and driving in the Cubs’ first run of the game. The Cubs got their next two runs on a monster homer to dead center by David Ross, who also had a nice day, featuring a couple runners gunned out on the bases.
Anthony Rizzo thereafter popped his 30th homer of the year, Kris Bryant tripled home Jorge Soler in the 9th inning, and Rizzo then added his second homer of the day. Suddenly, it was blowout city.
It was a good day in St. Louis. Time to head back home and wrap this baby up.
