Well, there’s a fair bit to say about that one in the broader context, but I’m not sure I’m in the right mindset to discuss it thoughtfully right now, and I’m not sure you’re in the right mindset to hear it. The series is far from over, but losing tonight’s game is a blow. No question about it.
As for the game, Jake Arrieta didn’t pitch poorly by any stretch, but the Dodgers took advantage of a few mistakes (and I’m not even sure the Yasmani Grandal homer came on a bad pitch). I don’t feel like Arrieta gave them those four runs – the Dodgers earned them. [adinserter block=”1″]
On the flip side, Rich Hill did not look especially impressive for the first three/four innings of the game, repeatedly missing his spots, and getting away with some tasty meatballs. He looked much better in his final two innings, and, by then, the die was all but cast.
The Cubs bats, right now, are just not clicking, even against hittable pitches. The at bats haven’t been bad. They just aren’t resulting in hard contact.
It’s a 2-1 series deficit after two straight shutouts.
