Welp. We knew it could be a wild one, what with the win, and it was. But in the wrong direction.
The Cubs blew two different four-run leads in this one en route to a late loss, with the deciding blow a wind-aided three-run homer by Andrew McCutchen. Although that’s what most will remember from this one, it’s worth pointing out how many opportunities the Cubs had to really put this one out of reach earlier in the game and couldn’t pull it off.

Jake Arrieta was solid once again, conditions considered, and the bats did plenty of damage off of Tyler Glasnow. But the youngster and the Pirates’ bullpen wriggled off the hook too many times. Even a second Kris Bryant homer in the 9th (wind-blown) could only get the Cubs to within one.
More on the particulars of this one later.
For now … sigh.
