Chicago Cubs

The not-so-good-week-and-a-half continues for the Cubs, even after last night’s blowout win in the second game of their doubleheader against the Rockies. Maybe they were turning a corner after a blowout loss in the first half of the twin bill …

Nope. Not today, at least.

The Cubs’ bats where wholly shut down by 22-year-old rookie German Marquez, who took a no-hitter into the 7th inning, and ultimately struck out eight Cubs in eight scoreless innings. It was a dominating outing against a Cubs lineup that looked suited for getaway day.

Kyle Hendricks got solid results all day, and the only two “earned” runs he gave up came after he departed with two runners on base. They scored when the opposing pitcher got a two out hit off of Carl Edwards Jr. Won’t see that too often.

Now the Cubs have to take a day off, and wait for a weekend series in St. Louis that suddenly feels extremely important.
