The Cubs made a flurry of moves today, sending Kyle Schwarber down to Triple-A Iowa and Jason Heyward to the disabled list.
So, they’ll be starting a trio of youngsters in the outfield tonight against the Marlins.
Check it out:
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Willson Contreras, C
- Addison Russell, SS
- Ian Happ, LF
- Albert Almora Jr., CF
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Jake Arrieta, P
- Mark Zagunis, RF
Indeed, it’s Kyle Schwarber’s replacement, Mark Zagunis, getting the start in right field tonight. It’s his Major League debut too, so he should be pretty fired up. He had a 132 wRC+ in Triple-A before his promotion earlier today.
Joining him in the outfield is 23-year-old Albert Almora (CF) and 22-year-old Ian Happ (LF). There’s plenty of talent out there, but that is one young outfield. Let’s see how they respond.
Anthony Rizzo continues to lead off and Kris Bryant tucks in right behind him. Bryant’s been through some struggles lately, so hopefully a road trip to Miami can snap him out of his funk. In the meantime, the relatively hot bats of Willson Contreras and Addison Russell (112 wRC+ in last 40 PAs) take over the three and four spots in the order and everything sorta falls into place from there.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time.
