Ah, the Reds return to Wrigley Field, and suddenly everything feels right again.
The Cubs’ bats erupted for 13 runs, with hits coming in spurts throughout the evening. Kris Bryant continues to have the hottest bat in baseball, and Jon Jay and Tommy La Stella repeatedly set the table.
The Reds pulled a real butthole move in the 7th inning, as Jon Jay came to the plate a homer shy of the cycle, and the Reds – down by seven runs – decided to intentionally walk him.
The Cubs immediately got their revenge by plating four more runs in the inning, and running up the score to 13-2 at the time. They also scored another couple in the 8th on a Javy Baez homer (off of Scooter Gennett), and wound up getting Jay another at bat – he hit a 341-foot fly out to center. Dang.
On the pitching side of things, Jose Quintana was not terrible, but he struggled with his command, and made a baffling error on an easy flip to home plate in a bases-loaded, no outs situation. Mike Montgomery did work out of the pen, and at the plate.
Cubs win comfortably, and I feel like snuggling with a good friend who is always there for me.
