Chicago Cubs bench coach Dave Martinez has long been deserving of a look for a managerial job, having been Joe Maddon’s successful long-time lieutenant, from Chicago to Tampa Bay.
He was interviewing this week with the Washington Nationals for the job vacated by Dusty Baker, and if you believe Wade Boggs, Martinez got the job:

It’s certainly very plausible that Boggs was among the first to know about this, and wanted to congratulate his former teammate (perhaps without realizing it wasn’t public yet). But this is definitely the first I’m seeing of it, and also the first time Boggs has ever broken news, so I suppose I’ll wait for confirmation before saying this is definitely happening.
If Martinez does go to the Nationals, the Cubs will have yet another coaching position to fill, and it’ll be as Maddon’s right-hand man. Obviously a very important role.
