Kyle Hendricks Scratched, Dealing with Strep Throat

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs don’t play a Cactus League game today, but Kyle Hendricks was going to make a minor league start today to stay on schedule, following Jon Lester last night.

I say was because that’s no longer the plan:

Before you freak, know that he’s still got 10 days before his regular season debut, and Carrie Muskat seems to believe that start is not imperiled:

Hendricks could be given ample time to rest, still make his final tuneup start this weekend, and then make start number two when the regular season begins. If absolutely necessary, the Cubs could also shuffle the rotation just a bit to have Hendricks go at some point after game two.

Assuming it’s just a regular illness without any lingering weakness, though, none of that should be necessary. And given that Hendricks may yet throw a bullpen session today, it doesn’t seem like he’s terribly sick.
