Ian Happ’s standing as MLB’s leader in batting average, hits, homers, runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, and other meaningful statistics didn’t last long.
Because the Cubs sent nine to the plate in a three-run first inning, the top of the order was ready to take their hacks in the top of the second. Looking to get a run back after Jon Lester allowed a two-out RBI single to Brian Anderson, Anthony Rizzo took one mighty swing and got that run right back:

I’m glad I didn’t make any pre-game promises or I would be joining Michael in taking a swim in Lake Michigan.
If the Cubs can keep up this offensive pace, they’ll hit more than 1,000 home runs as a team and score nearly 3,000 runs. Or something like that. Either way, I imagine those would be some sort of MLB records, which would be fun to watch unfold in 2018. Talk about setting some high standards.
