They’re here! The Cubs minor league seasons (full season leagues – AAA, AA, High-A, Low-A) kick off later this week on Thursday, which means it’s time for the unveiling of initial rosters.
The rosters are below, with the caveat that the Iowa Cubs have a written release discussing the roster, but not a sheet showing the full roster yet. The online version, which I tweeted, appears to be correct based on the release, with the exception of (1) not every player in that group will be active by the time the first game is played on Thursday, and (2) outfielder Wynton Bernard is also on the roster.
And the @IowaCubs initial roster, where you'll see a lot of depth coming up to help the big league team throughout the year. pic.twitter.com/T07XncgSlv

The initial @smokiesbaseball roster is out! No huge surprises, but lots of names to watch. So much breakout pitching potential, from De La Cruz to Hatch to Robinson to Rucker to Stinnett and more. pic.twitter.com/jcErrm1vyT

And the @Pelicanbaseball roster, where – wow – 19-year-old shortstop prospect Aramis Ademan is getting the bump to High-A. Also, early-round 2017 pitching draftees Lange and Thompson. pic.twitter.com/Q5lFRhPcZv

So much good young pitching to follow. And how about Aramis Ademan getting pushing all the way to High-A at just 19? Clearly, the Cubs are digging him as much as the pundits who rank him as the organization’s best position prospect.
Note that Adbert Alzolay, one of the Cubs’ top few pitching prospects, is said to be a couple weeks behind schedule at Spring Training (he is throwing in games there, in case you were worried), which is why he hasn’t been assigned yet.
Luke is also unveiling his 2018 Cubs prospect rankings this week, and the first installment dropped this morning if you haven’t checked it out yet.
