Chicago Cubs Lineup: With Anthony Rizzo Back, Balance and Order Returns
In case you missed the wonderful, beautiful, glorious news, Anthony Rizzo is back from the disabled list! And it’s amazing how much deeper the lineup looks immediately after his return.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Ben Zobrist, RF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Willson Contreras, C
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Addison Russell, SS
- Jason Heyward, CF
- Tyler Chatwood, P
While I can’t wait for one (or both!) of Albert Almora/Ian Happ to grab hold of center field/the leadoff job and run with it, it’s hard to argue that this isn’t the best lineup for the Cubs today. Specifically, I love seeing Ben Zobrist (and his hot bat) starting in right field with Jason Heyward finally getting some more time in center.
Brett and I chatted about seeing Heyward in center more often last week, and I think it’s a good idea as we continue to figure out what he’s actually doing at the plate this year (and while Happ/Almora grow into their roles (and while Ben Zobrist is still swingin’ it)).
It’s also nice to see 2-5 in the order looking as strong and balanced as ever, as well as Javy Baez up in the sixth-spot of the order. The lineup has been moving WAY more often than usual in 2018, but I’m willing to bet it settles down a bit in the coming weeks.
Later, during the pre-gamin’ post, we’ll get into Anthony Rizzo’s return and his matchup with Adam Wainright. Stay tuned.
