Because baseball was scientifically designed to be exasperating and intoxicating, just hours after losing one of the worst games you’ll see, the Cubs flicked the Reds like a gnat on their arm. If there were any ill-effects from playing like crap earlier today, the Cubs certainly didn’t show it.
It was yet another double-digit offensive outing from the Cubs, who went only 2 for 11 with runners in scoring position, naturally, but this time they at least had a lot of extra-base hits.
And the pitching! The Cubs desperately needed a long, good outing from Jose Quintana, and they got it. He didn’t even allow a hit until the fifth inning.
Good win all around, and now the Cubs have a chance to leave Cincinnati tomorrow having won three of four. You’d take that every time.
