The Cubs have won eight of their first ten games against the Brewers this season, so even if they lose this afternoon, they’ve more than done their job so far.
HOWEVA, a win would not only get them back into first place, it would also provide some much needed peace of mind over the next 48 hours without any baseball (day game today, off-day tomorrow, night game on Friday … woof) as we await the Cardinals series. A loss, however, well … it’ll just be rough.
Fortunately, the Cubs have Mike Montgomery going this afternoon and he’s been really fantastic in place of Yu Darvish this season. Hopefully, he can keep that up for a little while longer.
Meanwhile, Jhoulys Chacin is starting for the Brewers today, and he’s been absolutely brutal on right-handers this season, which is probably why Joe Maddon has loaded the lineup with lefties and reverse split guys. So I guess … if Jason Heyward can also keep banging the ball around that’d be swell too.
Let’s get that series win, Cubs. We’ll need it.
