The Cubs got on the board early in this one thanks to a two-out double by Javy Baez, and then a two-run shot by Willson Contreras.
The homer was, to my eye, extremely impressive:

I mean, that’s a *GOOD* 1-2 pitch. Great location, good movement, and usually is a whiff or a foul ball if you put a swing on it at all. Somehow, Contreras got down on it, and then also somehow kept it fair. Nuts.
It’s really nice to see power re-emerging for Contreras, who has an extra-base hit in three of his last four starts. I’d say something about how we discussed the need for him to get back to a more line-drive approach just before this hot streak, but this particular homer was a freaking moonshot, so I won’t go there right now.
