I’m all about athletes getting as much as they can while they can – the leagues certainly do – but I’m curious about LeBron James’ situation, specifically. As I understand it, he couldn’t get the biggest deal in the league anyway, he has ungodly amounts of money already, and, in a capped league, paying him, say, $10 million less per year could make a huge difference in the talent he’s surrounded with. Assuming his number one goal is to win it all – again, given the unique era/nature of the NBA/banked money/endorsements – wouldn’t he, himself, want to take a little less to provide more space under the cap to be surrounded with more talent?
Don’t get me wrong: I’m still very much pro get-yours-dude. But I’m genuinely asking, in this unique situation and sport, isn’t he kinda hurting himself for not a huge relative gain? Basketball ain’t my thing, but I wondered.
Also: kinda embarrassing that a large-market club like the Cubs didn’t even make a serious run at LeBron …
Albert Almora is having a brilliant season, hitting .331/.368/.459, with a 123 wRC+.
Since I still have characters left in this tweet, I'll also note that Ian Happ is hitting .257/.378/.461 with a 124 wRC+. pic.twitter.com/j4iBufivGA

Yu Darvish is an enigma and Javier Baez is a superstar. Albert Almora Jr. could be a batting champion and Kyle Schwarber might be the NL's best defensive left fielder? What we've learned about the #Cubs at the season's midpoint: https://t.co/6lcDmeeAq3

Question: "After a long stretch of games without a day off and a really hot weekend, what do you do on your day off to rest up?"
Heyward, smiling: "None of your damn business."
