Spring Training Miscellany: Pitchers and Bryant, Lester Leader, Morrow’s Health, Roster Move, More

With pitchers and catchers having officially reported to Spring Training yesterday, today marked the first official practice day for said pitchers and catchers.

Other items from camp …

  • Jon Lester is an increasingly vocal leader on this club and I love it:

  • The Cubs officially moved pitcher Kendall Graveman (Tommy John recovery) to the 60-day Injured List, which means he no longer takes up a 40-man roster spot. That roster is now down to 39, in case the Cubs have another addition to make at some point. Given that guys will be waived at various times this Spring, it’s good to be under 40.
  • Brandon Morrow won’t be ready for Opening Day, but he feels good and is throwing, so that’s a start:

  • Kris Bryant is an early reporter to camp. The high finish is back completely, and it looks gloriously majestic:
  • Oh heck yes. Let him do it, MLB:
  • Ian “Backwards” Happ:
  • Sound on:
  • I like to see pitching prospect Duncan Robinson – considered big league starting depth, and often mentioned by the farm crew as a possible contributor soon – throwing with the big boys:

  • I hope somebody asks Daniel Descalso how handsome he thinks Joe Maddon is:
