WATCH: Jon Lester (Hamstring) Working Out on the Field, Looking Spry

Chicago Cubs

There hasn’t been any indication that the hamstring injury suffered by 35-year-old pitcher Jon Lester while he ran the bases on Monday was particularly serious, but the Cubs were always going to play it cautious in any case. To that end, Lester immediately went on the Injured List, and Tyler Chatwood was tabbed to take Lester’s turn in the rotation on Sunday.

But will Lester be able to return the next time through? How’s he feeling? Was it really more of a cramping situation than a strain?

I can’t answer these questions for certain, but I will say he looks nice and spry working out on the field at Wrigley before today’s game:

If all is good with Lester, he could be back as soon as April 19, which would be that next turn through the rotation.
