The Cubs have already passed this “test,” by winning their tough series against the Dodgers with a Game 2 victory last night. But now, they have a chance to make a bit of a statement with a sweep.
And make no mistake – home field advantage or not – sweeping these Dodgers at this point in time, given the way the Cubs season started, would feel indescribably good. And doing it with a healthy Jon Lester on the mound in his first start back from the IL? Oh baby. WANT.
Speaking of which, Lester will probably not have the longest leash today (I believe he’ll be held to roughly 75 pitches), so the bullpen will be turned to sooner than usual. Depending on how early that exit comes, we might even see Tyler Chatwood step in for an extending outing, as we was originally slated to fill in today anyway.
GO Cubs. Go sweep.
