I’ll confess up front that the late West Coast start (10:10 pm for me) got me. I made it until the Mariners took the lead in the bottom of the 4th after the uncharacteristic David Bote and Javy Baez errors.
Of course, that means I didn’t see Anthony Rizzo take the lead right back for the Cubs with a two-run homer, and I didn’t see the Mariners take the lead back only for Kyle Schwarber to give the Cubs the win in the 8th with a monster bomb. It seems there was quite a bit of drama in-between, with the bullpen creating – and escaping – a number of terrifying situations.
Twice the Cubs lost the lead, and twice they took it immediately back with a two-run homer. That’s neat.
More to unpack from this one momentarily, but I always find this fun …
