You’d be forgiven for bailing on this one after the Cubs went down 3-0, with the bats looking helpless against Luis Castillo. He’s really, really good, and the Cubs have been so inconsistent on the road that a comeback seemed unlikely – to put it mildly.
But, hey, not only did the Cubs chip away, Kris Bryant socked a two-out, three-run homer in the 7th to put the Cubs on top. That’s a late, clutch, two-out, RISP hit, eh?
The bullpen was great and clean and smooth in relief of Jon Lester, who was more or less fine in a place where offense is easy to come by. Special shouts to a dominant Rowan Wick, and Pedro Strop for finishing things out (even though he still doesn’t have his fastball).
Good win all around, and a series split in Cincinnati. I will soooooooo take that.
