Like the tides, the Cubs come home and build a lead, and go on the road and lose the lead.
The Cubs can’t keep counting on other NL Central teams to flub around and keep them afloat on these road trips. The hour is growing late.
So, hopefully the Cubs can today do the one bare minimum decent thing they’ve done on the road with consistency – avoid being swept – and then try to take a series from the Pirates this weekend. One of the games is The Little League Classic and isn’t in Pittsburgh, so maybe they can convince themselves it’s not a true road series!
Meanwhile, the Cardinals kick off a series in Cincinnati tonight, where hopefully the Reds will treat it like their World Series, like they did with the Cubs. To their credit, the Cardinals have had a nice stretch of very winnable games, and they’ve won them all.
The Brewers are off today before heading to Washington this weekend.
