It’s another day of status quo in the NL playoff races of note, because the two teams the Cubs are chasing won.
The Cardinals beat the Giants once again, with Jack Flaherty continuing to pitch like second-half-2015-Jake-Arrieta. They remain 3.0 games up on the Cubs, and 7.0 games up on the Brewers.
In the Wild Card, the Nationals held on to their 3.5-game advantage over the Cubs for the top spot thanks to a SEVEN-RUN walk-off 9th inning against the Mets, who led by six runs entering the bottom of the 9th.

The Cardinals and Nationals are the literal two hottest teams in baseball, so it’s hard to be too mad at the Cubs for staying a few games back. All the Cubs can do right now is keep their head down and keep winning as much as possible. Next up, a very tough four-game series in Milwaukee after the off-day today.
The Cardinals have two more against the Giants, who might consider waking up. The Nationals finish up with the Mets today before heading to Atlanta for the weekend.
