The Cubs and Cubs tied up today, with each of Tyler Chatwood and Alec Mills giving up four runs. They cruised early, pounding the zone, but then the bats started knocking each around a bit. Willson Contreras and Josh Phegley continue their battle for the Summer Camp home run crown, each hitting a homer today (fourth for Contreras, third for Phegley). Ian Happ also homered, and took a walk. Nico Hoerner smacked another couple hits, Kris Bryant drove in a run, and in a shortened game, it was a solid one all-around offensively.
Cubs youngsters got to play in this one, including Brennen Davis, Miguel Amaya, and Chris Morel, the latter of whom smoked a double:

Amaya ripped a single up the middle, too:

Reliever Rex Brothers looked like the best realistic version of himself in this one, with some wildness, but also so much nastiness and deception. It was clear that none of the hitters he faced (he walked one and struck out three) was seeing the ball well out of his hand, and he just seemed like such a tough at bat. For a team with few lefty options out of the gate, I’d say Brothers has a good chance of making the team.
This was awesome. I just wish he’d gotten a play out there:
