Hello, friends. Did you miss us? Did you notice we were gone? Here’s the thing about websites: when your database goes down, the site, itself, is still accessible. But because WE can’t access any of the site INFORMATION, we can’t actually make any changes. For example, to write a post to say, “Oh, hey, we’re down right now!” So to you all, it probably just looked like we decided to take the day off.
Under the hood, our site’s server is undergoing a mandatory operating system update, which will cause outages (not unlike when your phone forces you to update, and bricks itself for a half an hour in the process). But we’d requested that the update take place at midnight tonight, because obviously. Well, unfortunately, for reasons I’m still trying to suss out from our host, some portion of the update process kicked off just as I was clicking publish on the now hopelessly-outdated Cubs Bullets.
So those did not publish, we had no Bullets for the other sports, no lineup, no Pre-Gamin’, none of it. Sorry. Sorry.
But we’re back! Kinda!
Some of the server updating process still has to take place, this time CORRECTLY at midnight. From there, it’s unclear to me now whether that’s going to have downstream impacts that could make the site unreachable for a stretch, say, tomorrow. So if you wake up and can’t get on or there are no new posts explaining what happened, now you know.
