The Chicago Cubs are dipping into independent ball to fill some of the gaps that have emerged on the positional side at Triple-A Iowa. A rash of injuries at the big league level, a lack of Triple-A-ready prospects, and the departures of Cameron Maybin and Ildemaro Vargas, have all combined to leave the Iowa Cubs in need of a little more positional depth.
Thus, the Cubs are bringing in former Oakland A’s utility man Tyler Ladendorf, according to his now former team:

Ladendorf, 33, last saw big league action five years ago with the A’s, and spent the time since then bouncing around the upper minors in various organizations. He actually spent the 2020 season with the Chicago Dogs, the indy team in Rosemont, and was a player-coach with the High Point Rockers this year in the Atlantic League.
As far as the fit, I think you’re probably looking at a guy who can play everywhere, is a long-time pro, and might already be on his way toward a coaching path. So if you need depth anyway, that’s not a bad guy to bring into your Triple-A group.
