Javy Báez Left the Game After an At Bat (UPDATE: Thumb)

Chicago Cubs

Well this is not good. Javy Báez just hit a line drive to first base, kinda hung his head a bit, and then was pulled from the game. I thought he was hanging down because he was frustrated that he’d just ripped one right at a guy, but it sounds like it might’ve been something else.

So that’s not good.

Bastian is at the game, so he could see more than we could. There was nothing visible with Báez on the broadcast.

We’ll update when there’s word. Sergio Alcantara took over at shortstop for now. Hopefully Báez is OK, but you don’t love that he was immediately pulled.

UPDATE: Right thumb soreness, which squares with him feeling it on a swing and immediately leaving the game. I wonder if it’s something he’s been dealing with or something new and he’s gonna get scans. We’ll find out soon enough. Sigh.
