REJOICE!
After being pulled from the game with hamstring fatigue on Tuesday, missing the game entirely on Wednesday, and pinch-hitting (but not running) last night, Kris Bryant is back in the Cubs starting lineup – in the outfield, no less, where he could have to run a lot more than he would at third base – with a week to go before the trade deadline. That’s very good news and now you hope he just looks healthy and productive over the next week.
Speaking of third base, Matt Duffy is also making his triumphant return to the lineup and roster at the expense of Eric Sogard, who was just DFA’d by the Cubs. That means Patrick Wisdom is on the bench.
Also on the bench? Ian Happ, who’s been usurped by a hot Rafael Ortega, leading off and playing center field. Also also on the bench? Willson Contreras, though with a night game last night followed by a day game today, it’s just regular rest for the Cubs catcher.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are starting Zac Gallen this afternoon, who’s last start also came against the Cubs, but in Arizona: 5.2 IP, 3H, 1ER, 2BB, 7Ks. Gallen has pretty significant lefty/righty splits this season (less so for his career), with lefties slashing a massive .291/.386/.442 (.363 wOBA).
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (1:20 CT).
