With pervasive Cubs-Mets rumors for months and months, and with the Mets not yet having done anything particularly splashy, you see a report like the one about third baseman JD Davis maybe being moved to open up a spot for Kris Bryant, and you listen really closely.
And then when you see tweets like this, you really sit up:
The team the #Mets sense they match up with best at the moment is the #Cubs. If that happens will it be for a small item such as Zach Davies to help cover innings rest of way? Bryant’s bat/versatility? Kimbrel to try to have a killer late game? A combo?

One team talking to the Cubs believes “they do something big soon.” Still too soon to say if Mets will be the team to land Bryant or Baez, but might know before the night is up. Kimbrel could go tomorrow.

Note that Martino caveats that not everyone believes Bryant will be moved. So, there will always be hedging. Don’t necessarily start thinking something is imminent.
But that said, that’s two separate reports out of New York that are tying the Cubs and Mets, once again, and with the deadline less than 24 hours away, there’s some level of imminence implied no matter what.
