If the Cubs are supposed to be tanking, someone forgot to tell David Ross. Although it’s mostly due to a few key players finally being healthy at the same time, this is probably one of the best Cubs lineups we’ve seen since the trade deadline.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
1. Rafael Ortega, CF
2. Frank Schwindel, 1B
3. Ian Happ, RF
4. Willson Contreras, 3B
5. Patrick Wisdom, 3B
6. Alfonso Rivas, LF Matt Duffy, 2B
7. Matt Duffy, 2B Trayce Thompson, RF
8. Nico Hoerner, SS
9. Alec Mills, P
Contreras behind the plate, Hoerner at short, Duffy at second, Rivas in right field? Check, check, check, check.
And beyond those four, you have your regular center fielder and leadoff man, Rafael Ortega, in place, the hottest bats (Frank Schwindel and Ian Happ) in power positions, and Patrick Wisdom in the heart of the order, ready to change the game with one swing. Let’s see if they’ve got what it takes against the right-hander Griffin Jax.
