The Cubs put together an A+++ Fake Rally in the 9th, plating two and leaving the tying and winning runs on third and second. But a juuuuuust barely tag on Willson Contreras’s hand, and then the 18th Cubs strikeout of the night ended things. It’s OK to admit to mixed feelings there in the 9th inning. All I can say is that the Cubs did not win, and that is probably better for them at this very specific moment in time.
It was a better night for Kyle Hendricks than he’s typically had lately, but Max Kepler certainly had his number, twice going deep on middle-middle misses. Beyond that, it was a whole lot more hard contact than you’d want, once again. Not hard to see why:
