Chicago Cubs Lineup: Willson Contreras Gets Back in There

The Cubs have lost 7 games in a row heading into tonight’s matchup with the Pirates, which, just … deep breaths. Here’s David Ross’ lineup for Game 2 in Pittsburgh.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

1. Rafael Ortega, CF
2. Frank Schwindel, 1B
3. Willson Contreras, C
4. Ian Happ, LF
5. Matt Duffy, 3B
6. Nick Martini, RF
7. David Bote, 2B
8. Sergio Alcantara, SS
9. Kyle Hendricks, P

Given that he appeared as a pinch hitter late last night (and wasn’t involved in any of the injury updates over the past 48 hours), I wasn’t particularly concerned about Willson Contreras’ absence from yesterday’s starting lineup, but it was on my mind. After all, he’s missed a significant amount of time with various injuries this season and wasn’t in the lineup the day after an off-day, which was a little strange. But all’s well that ends well, because Contreras is back behind the plate tonight, batting third.

He’s had a really strong finish to his season here since returning from the IL at the beginning of September, and I discussed that and what lies ahead for him yesterday.

Other than that, note that Patrick Wisdom just hit the injured list, alongside, like everyone else on the Cubs, which leaves third base open for Matt Duffy and right field open for Mr. 4-hit game Nick Martini.

Sergio Alcántara continues to cover shortstop and everyone else is where you expect them to be.

As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (5:35 CT).

Christopher Morel Puts the Cubs Back On Top

It's a game of homers so far, with Seiya Suzuki's two-run shot getting it started, then Elly De La Cruz's three-run homer giving the Reds the lead, and now Christopher Morel's two-run shot taking it back. That's a dozen on...
