A quick update this evening from Cubs President Jed Hoyer on the coaching staff, via Cubs.com beat reporter Jordan Bastian.
Yes, Greg Brown is the guy, and at least two more hires on the coaching staff are coming:
Hoyer confirmed hiring of Greg Brown as Cubs’ new hitting coach. Cubs planning to look outside org for new assistant HC. Search ongoing for hire within pitching group to fill vacancy left by Borzello’s departure.

As you’ll recall, the Cubs snagged Brown from the Rays organization, filling the spot vacated by the mutual separation with Anthony Iapoce. The assistant hitting coach spot opened up because Chris Valaika departed for a promotion to the lead hitting coach gig with the Guardians. And long-time coach Mike Borzello was not retained after a decade with the club. That hire could conceivably come from someone else within the pitching infrastructure, or it could also be an external hire.
Now is roughly the time when these things are finally sorted out, with organizational meetings taking place in tandem with the GM Meetings. I would expect a full coaching staff to be announced within a few weeks (CBA-related lockout notwithstanding … ).
