Kyle Hendricks is back on the mound tonight, following two really strong starts against the Cardinals and Reds:
@STL: 7.1 IP, 5H, 0ER, 1BB, 6Ks
vsCIN: 6.0 IP, 6H, 2ER, 1BB, 7Ks
13Ks to just 2 walks and two earned runs over 13.1 innings? Uh, yes sir. More of that, please. I don’t know where this season is headed for Kyle Hendricks, but if he can string together 3-4 more quality starts before the All-Star break, he is going to be a very highly sought after starter on the trade market, especially with all of his postseason experience.
Jason Alexander is starting opposite Hendricks tonight, in what will be his sixth start of the season and second against the Cubs. In his first matchup with Chicago back on June 1, Alexander went 7.0 innings of 2-run baseball, with just three strikeouts and three walks. The Cubs managed almost no hard contact in that and kept beating the ball into the ground (-14.5 degree launch angle, 76.2% ground ball rate, 0 barrels, 84.2 MPH average EV). Not pretty. Hopefully, they have more luck this time around.
Go Cubs.
