Earlier today, the Chicago Cubs traded right-handed reliever Chris Martin to the Los Angeles Dodgers. And although the Cubs are already on the West Coast — and got a borderline big leaguer in return — it’s reliever Mark Leiter Jr., not Zach McKinstry (the return), taking Martin’s roster spot in San Francisco.
By now, you should be pretty familiar with Leiter Jr., who’s been up and down with the Cubs all season. No surprise the Cubs prefer to replace an arm with an arm. But I bet we’ll see McKinstry soon enough.
Leiter Jr. last pitched with the big league Cubs on 7/14 (3.2 IP vs. the Mets, 3ER) and he threw 3.0 scoreless innings for Iowa on the 26.
